The Importance of Good Lacrosse Gloves

Lacrosse gloves are every bit as important as the stick a player uses. They provide a firm and solid grip on the stick during play and are the primary point of contact between players and the stick for controlling the ball. There are several factors that should be considered when selecting lacrosse gloves.
The two most critical criteria are comfort and mobility. Those two factors are especially important when choosing gloves for young players and those new to the sport. Fingertips should just touch the end of the gloves, but still remain underneath the padding. The palm of the hand should be covered by the palm material – if it isn’t, the glove is too small.
The hands should be able to move comfortably and easily without any restriction. Over time, players begin to develop preferences in how their gloves fit. Some prefer a fit that’s looser and more flexible. Others want gloves that fit skin tight. No matter the preferred fit, they should always be firmly attached to the wrists so they don’t feel as if they’re going to slip off.
There are dozens of brands from which to choose when selecting lacrosse gloves. They do get a lot of wear and tear and will need to be replaced when they develop holes in the palms, which may be every 12-18 months, depending on how much they’re used. Keeping gloves dry will enable them to last longer and mitigate problems with odors. They can also be sprayed lightly with a disinfectant and deodorizing spray.
Lacrosse gloves are an essential part of equipment and they can be pricy, making it essential that they’re not left to develop mold or mildew after practice or a game. Try not to put them in the equipment bag when they’re damp and be sure and take them out as soon as possible to air dry. They’re a valuable piece of gear that provides protection and grip during play.
